When Nancy Turner thinks of the homefront during World War II, she immediately thinks of women. At the outbreak of the war, the majority of American women were keeping the households for their husbands, children, fathers, and brothers, while American men were working in the fields, offices, and factories. Many women stepped up to help their country during this time, by not only keeping their households, but also maintaining the war effort by stepping into those jobs vacated by the men who had gone off to war. Without their actions, the American war effort might have fallen short. Her inspiration for this project was the WWII posters that showed women stepping into the shoes of their brothers, fathers, and husbands and inspiring other women to do the same. Women and their families during this time were encouraged to plant Victory Gardens,to be self-sustaining and help keep the food supply chain intact. This project will help eliminate food deserts locally.
